Zen and the art of being Mama

A whole lotta mama searching for a little zen

I made an Apron! :D June 21, 2005

So.. I finally decided to Tie one On. This months theme is Home on the Range.. and since I’m new to sewing, I wanted to take it easy on myself. So, I made up a pattern using a bandana and some bandana fabric. And.. guess what, I’m hooked. I think I was channeling my mom, seamstress extrordinaire… cause I kinda kicked ass.

I did make a few mistakes… like I don’t really like how the pleats turned out.. cause they make me hips look distorted. But, it’s my first project, and I think it rocks either way. :D Yeah me!

Camping and knitting and SP! June 19, 2005

Filed under: Uncategorized — mamazen @ 9:17 pm

Went camping this weekend with two of my knitting buddies, Jen and Joi (and our families of course). It rained. And Rained. AND RAINED.

Nothing like knitting in the rain! Posted by Hello

Every once in a while, it would stop raining… and we’d head out to knit by the campfire…

Well…. I finally finished my silk bag. I had put half of the liner together over a week ago, and when we got home from camping, before I allowed myself to start sewing the apron I just bought the fabric for…… I finally finished it! (yes, that was an awful run on sentence!)

Oh, I feel ill.. someone call the doctor! June 14, 2005

Filed under: Uncategorized — mamazen @ 10:44 pm

The doctor of craft that is… I must have a sickness, I must. This crafty ADD is really starting to get in the way of my finishing things. And that whole mess I call my ‘job’. (for those not in the know, I’m a chiropractor, run my own business, and work part time) I have something new i want to try. Sigh. First, let’s run down the lists…
Crafts I currently do
1. Knit (duh)
2. Beading
3. Embroider
4. Very mild sewing
5. Collage work/scrapbooking

Projects I have half (give or take) finished
1. Chevron Tank from Rebecca 29
2. Ribby Cardi
3. Some sort of something for my MIL birthday – may or may not be a sweater
4. Psychadelic Zebra for friends baby
5. Recycled silk purse (only needs lining finished!)
6. At least one pair of socks.. maybe 2
7. Scrapbook from trip to Europe 5 years ago!
(I think that’s all) whew….

Projects that are in the wings
1. Knitting needle roll for my sister’s bday.
2. Anouk with a watermelon theme for another friends baby.
3. Set of embroidered tea towels for kitchen
4. Set of embroidered cloth napkins
5. Multiple various sundry knitting things

Now.. things I really want to try…..
1. Quilting.
2. Sewing purses (like the jordy bag on Craftster – man, that place is evil!)
3. more paper craft (like collage card making)
4. And this… I really really want to Tie one on.

I am becoming a complete domestic freak. What, with the knitting, the sewing, the embroidery, and now… making an APRON????? Have I lost all touch with my feminist nature? Or is this just reclaiming a sense of home-making that feels complete? I love cooking, so why not have a sassy little apron to wear? There is something about an apron that is kind of sexy… and quite frankly, I’m a bit of a messy cook sometimes.
So… I’m not going to rush out and buy fabric and a pattern to sew an apron. But, it goes on the list.
I am seriously going to have to look at this whole ‘career’ thing. I have crafts to do, damnit! I can’t go to work, I must craft!

For Josy’s baby Eliot, I felt he needed something other than a sweater… so along came…. Turtle!

After sitting on the computer a while to wake up, Turtle wanted to meet Mik, our oldest kitty.

Turtle is pretty slow, so Elwood hung out with Mik and cheered Turtle on.

Later, Elwood and Turtle hung out a while, watched a movie about the wild and had some snacks.

When it was time for Turtle to go, Elwood was sad, but after a nice hug, they were both ok.

So Tuesday, Joi and I went to the Knitpicks store in VanTucky. (Vancouver, WA…)NO, they don’t actually sell the Knitpicks yarn there.. it’s just their ‘international headquaters’. But they do have a clearance area with a few things at amazing prices.
Hmmmm I bought….

Clasic Elite – La Gran Mohair 10 skeins for $15. (yes… it’s that crazy!)

And, in the midst of the heat wave last week (that turned into fall – it’s 50 and raining this week!) I started (and am almost finishe with) the Honeymoon Cami Knit with Berocco Glace it seems like it may be a bit heavy, but we’ll see. It sure is pretty! All I have left to do is finish up the straps, and weave weave weave! The weaving will take a while, as this yarn was two different ponchos, before it was frogged, left in the stash for a while.. and had several breaks in it. Ah.. live and learn!

Ok.. off to see if I can finish the Cami before work this afternoon. :D
