Zen and the art of being Mama

A whole lotta mama searching for a little zen

Knitting? yes! January 22, 2007

I’ve eeked out a few moments here and there to knit again, but never remember to take pictures! So… recently I’ve finished:
*felted clogs for my mom ( she loves em!)
*felted slippers for Ruby (she couldn’t care less!)
*LTK pilot hat for Ruby (nonplussed)

And have now started a Calorimetry for myself.

Now… to steal an idea… Compacting. I have several friends dabbling in it and I feel the draw to do so. My friend A has a great sum up in her knitting blog (knitspiral – link to the right – I’m too lazy to do the HTML)
It is a combination of simplification, reducing your footprint on the world, and getting back in control of the money you spend and how you spend it.

The basic premise is to vow to not buy anything new, beyond actual NEEDS and consumables (food, health stuff), and to declutter/donate/get rid of all the excess.

So there you have it. And the truth is (as she put it so well) i have a lot of dead weight in my stash. A LOT. So… I’ll be decluttering, selling, gifting, what have you to decrease. And I’m going to try to shop by project only from now on. Of course that means I need to LOOK AWAY form the sale signs and what not, and i seriously need to decide if i NEED to knit another clap before i order the yarn for it, but all in all, it’s not much different than last years “use my stash up” plan, that I did pretty well on.

So soon I’m going to organize my stash and decide what to keep and what to toss. Hold my hands folks, it might be painful. I’m planning on doing my whole craft room. Then the kitchen. yes. i’m serious. Maybe eventually I’ll get to the BASEMENT.
I’ve got to get Ryan on this plan. I’m sure he’ll be down with it. He’s groovy like that.

Of course we did just buy a new (new to us) Toyota Prius Hybrid, so we’re not doing so well in the not buying department. But FOLKS, it’s a HYBRID!! :D We should pick it up later this week. Woot!
